The opulence of the locker room in the article's photo is the most ridiculous abomination that I have ever seen. Under each of those chairs should be a package of Pampers.

For all the Tubby bashers out there, you have to admit one thing. Not only does he have the climate going against him in recruiting, he has a facilities disadvantage too.

If Norwood and his wealthy donor friends want to do something truly great for the University, have them provide funds to upgrade the class rooms on the East Bank campus. The class rooms in Vincent Hall and the Tate Physics Lab were state of the art back in the 1930s. A little more money spent on the learning experience, and less money spent on enriching the lives of a few athletes is in order.

I am not a fan of win at all cost at the college level. That said, state citizens feel second class if their sports' teams are consistent losers. I suppose it is the sin of pride that creates that illusion. It would be, kinda nice, if a few billionaires threw some money into new facilities, rather than "taking it with them."

Six years ago construction began on a $300 million dollar football stadium. There were two main objectives: 1. get the students to attend games; b. improve player recruitment. After 3 years the results are: fewer students are going to the game compared to the HHHdome and recruitment is poor. This is a 300 million dollar example of how NOT to spend money on facilities at the UofM. Put the money into educational facilities improvment and expansion.

This "push for plush" is a classic example of the law of diminishing returns. If everyone is plush, then no one is. It's a never-ending sucker game of the Joneses trying to keep up with the Joneses.

BUilding of this nature should be mostly donor funded. It is at most universities. It provides economic stiumulus to the region, and provides local campus pride. We may not be able to build all we want.....but low expectations yield low results. And that flows through not just athletics, but also academics. Nebraska has more academic all Americans than any other university all time. And there current FB team has 3 more candidates....no other d 1 school has 3. Seems like the priorities are right. Let's do that here.

At a preseason football game this fall, I personally showed Norwood's right-hand man how to fund a practice facility like Nebraska's: fill the new football stadium every Saturday. No lack of money at NB, MI, OSU, PSU, WI, MSU, etc. That's because there are NO EMPTY SEATS at their revenue-producing sporting events, especially football. Win in football, basketball and hockey at the U of M and this facility plan can be easily funded. Keep losing (as we did under Maturi), and it becomes an up-hill battle and MN continues at the bottom of the conference in both wins and facilities. Winning and facilities go hand in hand. This isn't rocket science. At least Teague is addressing this head-on. Go Gophs.

I have never met T. Denny Sanford, I'm sure he is a great guy. That said, he would be foolish to hand over one dime to Norwood Teague. As far as expanding the UofM athletic facilities, Norwood already has too many responsibilities heaped upon his narrow shoulders.
