Such labels would have implied that there's something wrong. There isn't.

Why so modest, Keith? You're also Secretary of the MN Soybean Research & Promotion Council.
But my real beef (awesome pun intended as soybeans are forever linked with livestock feed) - you're asking us to just blindly trust the Government's/council/[insert ANY special interest group here] assertion that it's 'OK' and thus labels aren't needed. Please let us, the public, be the judge of that.
Knowledge is power, baby. Don't demean our intelligence and demand our blind allegiance to your own idea of what is right.

Depending on the crop, you also have to buy the matching pest/weed control. As a result, there are now over 20 "super weeds" that are resistant to the sprays. Remember, nature finds a way. Look at the antibiotic resistant bugs that are now becoming almost common place. You didn't mention how much money was spent to defeat the bill did you?
I will take my cue from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). If they arent't worried, I am not.
Inexcusable idiocy. Label the food and let the people who consume it decide what they want to eat, not the people who make the profits.
I am tired of gigantic goliath companies like Monsanto deciding what is right for everyone. We have a right to eat food that was not tampered with in a lab.
If given a choice (which we should all be given) I believe most would choose the food that was grown without genetic manipulations.
People have the right to know what's going into their foods. And the fact that there is so much economic concentration in the food processing industry is alarming. These companies are so concentrated and large they basically tell the FDA, or other relevant gov't agencies, how to write the regulations! Not to mention the influence they have with the funding of research and lobbiest in D.C.
BTW - The previous poster is correct, a quick look and the web site for the MN Soybean Research & Promotion Council reveals that this author, Mr. Schrader, is no impartial person with an opinion, he's an advocate with a vested interested for the what he's writing about. Saying that he's 'a farmer in Nerstrand' is decieving and specious.
"We have a right to eat food that was not tampered with in a lab. " If there is a demand for that product, then a private party will start to sell it. The those who want it can pay the higher prices for food proudly proclaiming -- "Science Free Food, a bargain at half the price!!"
If he is secretary of the Minnesota soybean and research council then the Star Tribune made an error by not making him claim this at the end of the article.
I also do not understand the logic in saying it is safe but putting it on the label that it is made from genetically engineered crops is like putting a skull and crossbones on the label. The way you talk people should want to buy it, so put it on the label.
I agree that the Star Tribune should have given us the connection. GMOs are not good for body and enviroment. I would advise Mr Schrader to educate himself with watching King Corn and various other documentaries that tell the truth, reading different publications like "Organic Consumer", "The Cultivator" publiched by Cornucopia institute. As a conusmer I can spend my money to benefit the earth in a positive way and not support Monsanto and the big copporations. You all can keep lying to us but we are catching on...
How about a newspaper giving an impartial view as to the "right" thing to do. We can make our own decisions about what is right and wrong, I would prefer to just hear the facts! Way to go strib!!!
