I am a teacher and reading this story reminded me that some people are not fit to teach. What this woman did is terrible. I challenge anyone who has any background in education to explain to me how this will motivate students to continue progressing as readers. It won't. Instead these kids will learn to hate reading because it will be associated with shame. Shame on that teacher and I hope her administration forces her to either resign or be retrained. My heart goes out to her students who were misguided into thinking that it is okay to shame another person simply because they struggle. In addition, I would like to add that if my own children attended this school I would demand that they be placed into a different class with a qualified teacher.
