Now let's see if the two warring political parties can come to peace terms and do what is right for every person in the United States not just the rich.

Both sides might as well go home and pout and come back the the week after Christmas. Then they will both be facing their own cliff and will have to do something. Brinkmanship is the political game being played. The clock is running.

medvezhonok, the 'rich' pay virtually all of the taxes already. 50% pays nothing... Why do you think it is your right to take what is rightfully theirs? I am not 'rich', but apparently I don't suffer from envy like those on the left. Let them keep theirs, I'll earn my own thanks.

How about this, let us Republicans handle all of the financial concerns of the country. So Obama and his "friends" please step aside on these issues and go home! P.S. The Republican party should also handle all foreign policy issues..

The rich have virtually everything. They should pay the bulk of the taxes in that case. These "punishing" taxes you keep talking about have certainly not suppressed the opportunities of the rich as the past 30 years have proven.

notalib4: When talking about taxing the rich, it is not about taxing them more, it about taxing them equally. If we are going to have tax brackets, then we need to close the loop holes. It is harder for someone making 20 dollars an hour to 25% of there earnings in taxes, than it is a millionaire to pay 13%. In other other the middle class is paying 25 cents on a dollar and someone who is classified as rich is paying 13 cents on a dollar.

" the 'rich' pay virtually all of the taxes already. 50% pays nothing... Why do you think it is your right to take what is rightfully theirs?" ---- UM< Maybe because they have been wrongfully hoarding the wealth for years now? I work for a manufacturing company that has made huge profits this past two years, by hiring mostly "temp" workers that don't qualify for any kind of benefits. They work for a far lower wage, and get NO benefits, no vacation, no holiday, and certainly NO health care. But the owners are making out like bandits. They SHOULD pay more, so the govt can afford to help those "temp" employees!

My guess is the DEMs do not want a deal, let us fall over the cliff, and blame it on the GOP. History proves they want the issue and not the solution. I think the GOP will agree to a tax hike on the wealthy, and the DEMs will keep upping the ante to make any deal unpalatable. I hope I am wrong.

I say let all the tax cuts expire for everyone. If our government feels the need to maintain the current or 'slightly reduced' levels of spending then should we all be in the big happy village together & not discriminate against anyone. The whole campaign was run on everyone paying their fair share then it's time to pay up America.
