Oh those darn Koch brothers. How dare they invest their own money (unlike Solyndra) to improve their infrastructure and create jobs. This can't be.

People do not buy gas to waste. They buy it because they have too. This expansion is curious. There is no shortage of gas right now. If they make refine more, someone else will refine less. But who? The other refinery is not going to lower their gas price to get more sales? We all know every gas station on the planet instantly raises their price to match the competition.

My guess is that they wanted to do it before now, but didn't want to do it before the election because it would make Obama look good. Ha Ha. Didn't help.

This is a 5 yr project before it will come on line.Since the election is over and both partys will have to learn how to play nice in the sandbox together, the oil industry is betting the economy will improve and there will be a bigger demand for gas in the future.

Ah, the Koch brothers, the billionaires who tried to buy the presidency, Wisconsin, Minnesota and more. The biggest (and serial) polluters in the country with the most safety violations. Can't believe they even put up their money to win mayor of little ole Lakeville. Wonder why the interest...hmmm, Lakeville is near Rosemount. Perhaps they would like to control all the towns around their refinery. Too bad, you failed boys!

Maybe it is all about efficiency? They can produce more gas at lower cost? So they are more profitable? And any plant improvement is tax deductible.

Thank goodness for the one-percenters. We would be lost without them. The Koch brothers have created more jobs in their lifetime than the Federal Stimulus Program. And ... I might add ... lasting, meaningful jobs. I love these types of stories.

I would think they would build their refinery in the Dakota's since they have lower tax rates. According to the propaganda groups the Koch's fund, low taxes are the sole cause of prosperity for Americans.

The last 'significant' refinery was built in 1977. It is extremely expensive to build one due to EPA regulations; it is cheaper to modify an existing one. They are upping capacity due to at least 2 reasons: there are refineries closing in the US every year (especially on the east coast) and we are exporting more refined product every year.

"cavell - Maybe it is all about efficiency? They can produce more gas at lower cost? So they are more profitable? And any plant improvement is tax deductible." -- Actually if they take profits and reinvest in capital improvements and investments it's not taxed, so not really tax deductible per se, just a tax incentive to invest in the business. My guess though is there are state subsidies and other tax benefits being offered to do it as well though. Every business gets something from the state to build, improve and invest. That's become the status quo.
