I think it would be great if Tennessee and Alabama joined Texas in seceding. Given their education systems are ..., and their income levels are even worse, the overall quality of life measurements in the remaining U.S. would go up.
I really wish there was a way that all the Right wing ya-hoos could gather together, put up there fences to isolate themselves from the rest of us and live in their 19th century world. A world where disputes are settled out in the dusty street in front of the Long Branch saloon with six guns (or AK-47s). A world where minorities wouldn't be allowed and where women and non-fundamentalist Christians would "know their place". A world where the faithful could deny any science that challenges their Biblical truths regarding evolution and global climate change. Just go there and stay there. Please don't beg to come back.
How can some people brag about how much they love "America" and as soon as things don't go their way they want to opt out? Is it America they love, or is it their own small-minded ideology which they want impose on others? Seems like a case of "I love America, except for the people and the laws and institutions and amendments I disagree with."
I realize that this is blowing off steam because they're frustrated with the outcome of the democratic (small d) process, but it's pretty immature just the same. I haven't heard "I'm going to take my bat and ball and go home" since fifth grade.
This highlights the biggest political problem that we have in this country: we have become so polarized that we can't respectfully disagree. It's not enough to have differences of opinion, political parties have to demonize and hate their opposition. This leads to the gridlock that has plagued this country. Bipartisanism is GOOD, because neither side has all of the answers. Differences of opinion should create a productive tension that leads to the middle ground which keeps the best of both points of view and moves the country forward. Instead, they produce temper tantrums that make it impossible to get anything done.
