Correction: The proposed ratio for 6 in care with infants or toddlers would be 1 caregiver for the infants and toddlers; max of 2 and one caregiver for the 4 preschoolers. Ratio - 2 adults to 6 children.

Families are also championing the ratios that are established. Consider the situation for families with twins or children close in age. Those ratios suggested would split siblings to multiple providers. Any child death is horrific. I believe the providers involved in these deaths are not the norm and their irresponsible actions reflect poorly on providers who operate above and beyond the baseline of regulated care. With regards to other states and their limits, is that every other state in the U.S or are there other states with worse ratios? Every provider in Minnesota for the first year can only care for up to 6 under preschool age, with a total of two infants. Many providers maintain this capacity after that first year. It's not just about money, the families have needs that providers are doing their best to accommodate.
