I'm not surprised these have increased revenue. In fact, if you sign up for 2 hours, and only stay 15 minutes, the next person doesn't get the benefit of the leftover 45 minutes, but has to start all over again. Another small way our shrinking pay checks are being raided by government.
I like the new meter system. When I use meters downtown it's mostly for business. Now that I can use my business credit card, I can just use my credit card statements for tax itemization purposes. It turns out I was underestimating how much I spend on meters by a couple hundred bucks a year.
Need signs telling when meters are enforced. Now we need to stop and check when it is enforced. The enforced hours are now longer into the night. If payable by cc, why limiting the parking time. Also wish it is smart enough to allow people to add time by phone if paying by cc.
The new meters are great for cards and cash, but they take away that awesome feeling of finding a meter that still has time on it. The newer meters in Northeast MPLS are so much better than the ones mentioned in the article. They're individual card/coin stations, and they have a flashing green light if there is still time left I'm sure they cost more to set up, but those are nice.
I hate the new process downtown. There is now the "Event Rate". If you want to park anywhere east of Nicollet Mall when there is an event going on at the dome they hike up the rates and they go until 10pm So, at 8am if you want to park at a St Olaf meter for church, and it's a Viking game day it's $15 !!!!!
I love the new meters. Each parking spot has a number and hours of enforcement.I used to not pay because I could'nt find quarters!
And there have been lines when many people show up to park at the same time. Not easy to see in bright sun. What did it cost to change them out? Did they recycle the old meters?
Its a mess. Its ridiculous. If there happens to be a game going on, I might as well just stay out of the cities, the cost of parking is ridiculous.

I don't get the stickers on the new meters that say the parking is enforced until 6 pm M-F and on the weekends except for "special event days" where they are enforced until 10 pm. What the heck is a special event day, where is that posted and are they just trying to ding out of towners?
