I think parents can talk about this topic until they are blue in the face. On a daily basis at a local HS I see students "changing" their attire from clothing put in their backpacks. Also, applying makeup, etc. End of the school day finds the same students "rechanging" into what they wore to school and removing their makeup. I think it's fine for a school to have some standards.

Good for the principal for starting the conversation. Honestly though, it's up to the parents, in the end, to control their children. I know I wouldn't have my daughter wearing the exposing clothes as they describe. I have a young daughter and shudder at the thought of some of the terrible things I heard in high school and college from the boys. And I'm not some super religious social conservative either. I do, however, thank my parents for the upbringing I had with the proper respect for women that all males should learn at a very young age. If that were more common today, maybe they boys would think twice about encouraging it.

Right on @flipnitch, it's up to the parents of those boys give them the proper upbringing to respect women and not see them as sexual object, but as mothers and sisters.

I shared this article w/ my daughter's school. They do have a dress code but it could use a little "enhancement."

The picture that the Trib has provided for this article is very misleading. The leggings that the Principal is referring to is more akin to tights or pantyhose than the thicker yoga pants or the classic stir-up legging - Think Jane Fonda Workout without the leotard.

I know David Adney, as a parent in the district (with a daughter, no less), and he is spot-on with his assessment and direction. We are fortunate to have him as a principal, and unquestionably he has made the school a leader in countless areas.

I worked at a salon where the stylists dressed that way. The rest of the staff them called hair hookers. They dressed that way to catch male clients on the way out the door from the nearby businesses. It worked. That "dress" has a place but not in a high school. Teach students self-esteem. You can't dress that way in business but if you want to be a hair hooker someday, wait till then.

Uniform uniforms. Problem solved and family budgets given a break.

The dress code issue certainly needs to be addressed by the district if the students are pushing the limits of appropriateness; however, they appear to be hypocrites when it comes to cheerleader and volleyball team uniforms. As the father of an eleven year-old female athlete, I refuse to let my daughter play volleyball until the uniform (speedo-like shorts) is changed. Boys volleyball and girls basketball players wear baggy/loose shorts without impacting the level of play - why can't the girls/women volleyball do the same?

How about parents start teaching their daughters that dressing like a bum makes you look like a lazy slob. Reminds me of college girls wearing sweat pants for days at a time.. If youre going out of the house, put some pants on.
