Well, there's a new hole in the rotation now. Good luck Terry Ryan.

Hmm . . . a 1-yr. deal? I was hoping we could sign Baker to an incentive-laden deal, BUT ideally 2 yrs or with a team option for the second, since the first year back from TJ is usually not pretty (think Joe Nathan and many others). Not sure I would have been very excited about just a 1-yr. deal, unless it was VERY cost-effective for the Twins. I'm curious to know what the Cubs put up for him.

The Cubs? He's done for sure now. He needed to go, we need some new blood on this team.

$5.5 base salary!? Yikes, I have to say that, assuming we use that money to sign a different starter, I'm glad we passed on this deal.

Is Jimmy aware of this or is he still in the vault counting the revenue from the taxpayers staduim??? I just get this sinking feeling Samuel Dedundooooo will be our answer to losing him..We will have nothing more than Diamond and a slew of #5 junk starters.

10o Twin losses, millions more in profit again next year.

at $5mil, that is too expensive. He is a mediocre pitcher coming off TJ surgery. Use the money to sign someone better.

Glad the Twins passed on him - 1st year is usually a struggle - look at Nathan and Liriano. 2nd year is usually more of a clue what they can, or will be. The only thing Baker has going for him is that he doesn't bring the hard heat to begin with.

I think we may be underestimating how much even mediocre pitching is going to cost. Reliever Jeremy Affeldt just got a 3 year deal. KC traded for Ervin Santana who will make $13M next year.

Eh, he was nothing more than serviceable with occasional above-average flashes of talent here and there. The only thing that bothers me is that I wish the Twins could have got rid of him earlier. Sometimes it's best to cut your losses and run. Hopefully the Twins have a plan in place...
