Adrian Peterson is becoming the player of the year when he should have been thrilled with being considered the comeback player of the year.

rivpet --- ALL THE TIME in MN. You name the MN "superstar" and then check their stats the following year...they suck. AP is one of a kind. My only hope is we actually DO get better before AP is done. He deserves a Super Bowl ring and I pray it's with the Vikes!

After all is said and done A.P. should be mentioned in the same breath with Brown, Sanders, Sayers and Payton. That is a top five to be proud of. Sorry Cowboy fans, even though Emmitt is the all time rushing leader I don't consider him with the five greatest!!

So, Mr. Souhan, can he surpass Usain Bolt and become the greatest athlete in history?

sorry franny, but one does not need to be a Cowboy fan to say that Emmitt most assuredly is in the conversation and facts being the stubborn things that they are tell us he has a Lot of records and SuperBowls. Souhan has written this piece just right, at this Precise moment AP is The Man. It could last for a week, a month , a year. Looking back on the stupid game last December we know all too well it can also be over in the blink of an eye. So just enjoy it as long as it lasts and remember it was our privilege to see greatness. It is a rare thing for sure

Hey Souhan- When is someone going to do a story on Jarred Allen? In my opinion he looks soft and slow this year and it doesn't look like he came to camp as fit as he did last year. You and or your peers notice or comment to each other about this? In one TV shot today it looked like he had "Grandma Arms" when he was waving his arms around. If I recall, he was the only guy who stayed away from voluntary team activities during the off season. Not a great example from one of the biggest stars on the team.

Interesting that in Mr. Souhan's litany of qualities that define a star football player, and all attributed to Mr. Peterson, he left out "intelligence". While Mr. Peterson's smarts are undeniable, I have the sick feeling that Mr. Souhan wouldn't have omitted that descriptor if he was describing Mr. Gerhart or Mr. Rudolph. One of my favorite things about Mr. Peterson is when he had that incident with the police at a party in Houston. Pretty much everybody, including other cops, figured that it was the cops causing trouble, not Mr. Peterson. We are lucky to have such a high character, intelligent player playing for our team.

Lots of late night haters here. Good article and what a joy to watch Adrian unleash it like he did today. In this pass dominated league, when is the last time a great running back led his team to the Championship? Does it go back all the way to Jim Brown? Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris? Emmit Smith was part of a 3 headed monster so I'm not counting that. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening for AP here with such a young and inconsistent QB. Or, if the defense was stronger, they might have a chance to run AP and try to win with zero mistakes and ball control. The Champs in this league win with great QB play. All that aside, keep running them over AP.

Adrian is the best pure runner I've ever seen. Absolutely awesome. But Souhan used the word "complete", which he is not. He's an average receiver and below average in pass protection.

Don't forget the surgeons who put his knee back together.

You forgot to mention Randy Moss who was just as dominant with over a 1000 yards his first six seasons, and a total of 90 TDs for the Vikes .
