So far this fall, the Gophers have looked like a team playing at full speed on both ends of the floor.

"Williams offered the theory that this team -- with a starting five that thrived at the end of last season -- is simply more comfortable with each other, and can more confidently make defensive shifts in games because they know teammates will adjust accordingly."... And THAT is how the game of championship basketball is played -- the instinct intangible that is the glue that makes team. The player that is the key more often than not isn't the most basketball-skilled or the most athletic, but the players instinctively trust him -- and that you don't teach, you just get lucky and see it and stay out of its way.

In all the years Smith has coached the Gophers, he has always played his slow paced game in the Big Ten and most times in all other games. He plays to win 60-58, holding the other team to 38% shooting. We will see if a change of style coninues.

Rayno, I think you are missing out on a big part of this story. The part you are missing out on is that Tubby isn't committing to his hockey style line changes by swapping entire units in every 5 minutes of game play. He's letting his #1 guys play until they are gassed out, get mismatched, out played or get into foul trouble. It seems that under Tubby's old philosophy that guys weren't fully engaged on the court because they knew they were coming out in a predetermined amount of time. Think about it...

i wish the gophers would play a tougher pre-season schedule....Every year they play an easy pre-season schedule and then when the big 10 schedule starts they get wiped out!!! C'mmon Tubby! Help your players get ready for Conference play by playing stronger pre-season teams!!!

The Gophers need someone to shoot the ball. In order to keep the big ten teams from packing it in on defense, we need a shooter. Joe C. will not have all those open lanes in the big ten - as we saw him shut down by many teams.
