Nate Silver's the new American hero. While the ratings-driven media kept painting this race as a "dead heat", Silver's 538 consistently shared aggregate poll results and formula-based predictions. In early October, Obama had only a 60% chance of winning. It steadily climbed to a Nov 6 reading of 92%. Going to his site daily was the only antidote to anxiety about what the media was peddling. In the end, Rasmussen and Gallup looked like the fools they were for being outliers to all the other polls. We will remember this in 2016. 538 was also right on the money in the 2008 election. Fox and friends created their own hermetically-sealed bubble with their own outlandish poll stats. They continue to deny, deflect, and obfuscate reality.
