Decades of business practices that seem shady and rug dealers are surprised at buyer fatigue?

"Amrami closed his store in September only to reopen a week later a few doors down in the same Centennial Lakes strip mall."

Why wouldn't this arouse a ton of suspicion?

75% discount? A $8k rug sells for $2k and he still makes profit? And this 8k rug looks just like a $350 rug from home depot? Hmm.

What this article doesn't tell you is that high-end oriental rugs sales abound at on-line sites like eBay. What these local sellers can't move at $10K sell regularly on-line for $1200. At least one eBay seller starts every rug at $1 and sells in a true no-reserve auction format.

It's not just changes in decorating styles or high prices. We have two housecats, and most of our friends have them as well. That means hairballs being thrown up on the rugs. None of us are going to buy a $2000 rug that needs professional cleaning - we look longingly at oriental rugs, and then buy cotton rugs that we can haul to the laundromat.

Yeah...I need A $12,000 rug like a hole in the head. I can carpet the entire house for less than $12,000.

Actually a consulting business makes sense for him. Connect with the high-end home decorator departments and let him inform the buyers just what quality THIS particular rug is and where one of same quality & style can be purchased for a better price. Somebody willing to spend north of $3,000 would be glad to spend $300 to be sure of quality and best price.

My dad was stationed in Turkey, tracking Soviet missile launches in the 1950s. He shipped several hand-knotted rugs back home in that time. A couple of them actually made it here to his parent's home. We enjoy the look and quality of that product, so the wife and I stopped in to this sale at Centennial Lakes during it's third week, wondering if there was a bargain to be found. Sticker shock seems an understatement. we were turning the corners on a stack of 10'X15' or so rugs when I started seeing prices that seemed unreal. There was actually a rug there priced at $96,000. That's not a typo: $96,000. Talk amungst yourselves; we can't hang around those prices.
