Open-and-shut opener as Gophers coast

The Gophers still haven't shown they can shoot from long range, but it didn't matter in a dominant first outing.

This 36 point win was expected. Congratulations. At least you got to play. Ohio State and Marquette couldn't play. And the Gator's and Hoya's couldn't finish their games. I love the support of our troops and military. But you will never see another game played on an air craft carrier. Good try. Love the idea. Play the games in doors. Lot's of effort put forth in Carolina and Jacksonville for a great cause. But play in a hanger like they did in Germany. It worked well last year in San Diego. But that's enough.

rafannon, I wouldn't call the Spartans opponent a cream puff. Purdue got beat tonight. Ohio State if they played would have had their hands full as well.

If the basketball team wins five more games, against any and all lackluster opponents, is it automatically in the NCAA tourney? I just want it to be fair with the so-called D1 football team.

Freshmen Ellenson and Buggs are the only reliable wing shooters. Buggs has been moved to forward and Ellenson is injured. Since Buggs did not play yesterday, you can expect both to be redshirted, leaving the real basketball opponents to win by forcing the Gophers to make 3s. Eliason's defense at the rim will be the key weapon the Gophers have this year. The Gophers have the players to play a quicker game but Smith likes the games 60-58.

The Thanksgiving Day game versus Duke will tell the tale where this team is at and heading. Last year's Gophers started rocky from 3 land as well and later turned that around in a big way.
