This article is hilarious, but sad. The players are looking forward to a loser bowl( I hate to even call this a bowl because a "bowl" indicates some recognition of a level of achivement and importance) instead on being embarrassed for their 1-4 record to date. Hopefully in another ten or fifteen years the third new coach can get the team to a 500 big Ten record. THAT will be a real accomplishment.

December road trip to a warm locale...... watch them get a bid to the Motor City Bowl.

I absolutely don't understand the negativity of these posters. What was your goal for the year? A date against Alabama in the national championship game? A Rose Bowl against Oregon? If the Gophers make it to a bowl that's an extra month of practice and the kids get a fun trip. What's not to like? Why complain so much? Your lives must be sullen and desperate.

Thank you Urbandale for your positive comment. It has been a long road from mediocre (or worse) football over these last 45 years. Lou Holtz gave us brief hope and Glen Mason provided some more, but we fell back into the bottom of the Big Ten again these last few years.

When you win a possible 2 games in conference and need a bowl for 'swagger' the program can't fall much further. This is a major university that hasn't been to a major bowl since 1961! We went to these "bowls' with Mason and couldn't sell any tickets,so tell me urbandale why this would be any different? Pride? just decline! By the way Holtz and Mason

Desperate? What would you consider receiving a boobie prize for a 3rd straight 2-6 season and then thumping your chest about it?

nick & side- 50 year Gopher fan. I'd agree on the bowl question and honestly- I don't sense anyone thumping their collective chest as it were. But look- 2 years ago they were losing to Bison, J'Rabs - STA Cadets probably could have beaten them 2 years ago. That they'd actually have 2 Big Ten wins at this point is to me nothing short of miraculous. Kill literally had to teach the club how to block and tackle when he got here! If I were a college player- all the opportunities to develop a career football or otherwise are right on the U of M campus. The future looks pretty bright but I'd agree they're not there yet.

I hope that they do win today and bcoem bowl eligible AND that they get invited to a minor bowl where they will play North Carolina. That match-up. especially, if the Gophers were to win it, would just highlight the foolish decision made by the not-ready-for-big time coach, Kill, when pulling out of the games with the Tar Heels.

Don't assume the Gophers can beat Illinois. These are two horrible teams coached by flunky coaches from the Mid-America-Conference. Should be a barn-burner! It's a battle for 9th place in the Big-10...Whoopee!
