Don't let your family's feelings for this guy dictate what you do. Yes they may be disappointed or upset but firstly, it's your life and secondly, as already said: You are 16; nobody could imagine you'd find your true love first time out of the gate. Don't let anyone pressure you into doing something that isn't right for you. It's not fair on you and definitely not fair on your boyfriend. If he were to find out you're only with him cause you're afraid of hurting someone else's feelings, he's not going to feel good about that. The days of living your life according to someone else's rules are long gone.

Your family should know this is your first relationship and most people relaize first relationships dont last. Its ok to feel that way, at 23 it was hard to leave my ex of 5 years, I was with him unhappy for 5 years because I was worried about the same thing. Everyone has the same worries, you arent the only one. Youre 16, enjoy life and dont feel bad about a boy, they come and go. Itll be ok.
