With Harvin's injury, it might be Wright time

The Vikings rookie receiver hasn't played in a regular-season game, but he's working as if opportunity is knocking.

The rest of the receiver core has disappeared off the face of the earth. Blame Ponder if you must; or blame the do noting wide receivers or the offensive line, or the coaching or the play calling. But one thing I have found in sports at all levels over the years, is that there is usually a hungry young player sitting on the sidelines waiting to shine. Just ask yourself one question about who he should replace. Does it really matter? None of the wide receivers, other than Harvin, have done a damn thing. We have no vertical game allowing safeties to move up closer and closer to help with run support. But what do I know, I'm just an amateur.

PS...If what you describe about what Harvin's ankle looked like is true, then it would be foolish to rush him back. A sprained ankle like this, can take longer to heal than a broken one. After the injury occurred, Harvin limped off, and then came hobbling back onto the field. You could almost see the defensive backs and linebackers snickering at his attempt to push off... he was a non-factor at that point, and all that came out of it, was more traumatic damage to that ankle. Where was the training staff? Why did the coaches let him go back out? What was Harvin thinking? It was sad.

If a player can't crack this lineup of receivers, then I can't believe he has shown much in practice (other than doing everything they have asked). On the other hand, if he does play and do well, one would have to question the football intelligence or common sense of the coaching staff. Sounds like a lose lose situation for the coaches.

Mythologer: So every time a young player comes into a game and does well you feel the need to question the intelligence of the coaching staff? Sounds to me like someone should question your intelligence.

readmylips. Wouldn't we need to question at least the abilities of the coaching staff to recognize talent if Wright were able to come in and do well now? I don't know if you would need to question their intelligence if Wright does well but you could do that too after what we've been seeing from the rest of the wide receivers. At this point I would say that Spielman was successful at upgrading every weak position but one and that would be the wide receiver position. It appears that the Vikings really suck at wide receiver right now but maybe Wright was sitting on the bench for weeks when he shouldn't have been.

When the D is playing single-high safety and one-on-one on the receivers, at some point you've just got to wing it out there. Ponder's scared to throw more than 5-10 yards downfield.

No receivers, no blocking, no defense: 6-10 Hope the new stadium gets a lot of rock concerts!

Wait, everyone complains we have ZERO Wr's besides Harvin and now we're getting excited for the practice Squad guy behind all these WR's? Please. Wright can't play in the NFL. Put Harvin out there, even if he's in a wheel chair! Just put his wheelchair on the line of scrimmage and have Ponder make the simple pass to him and let Harvin do his thing. Wait, nevermind Ponder stuggles with that throw too.
