How Romney lost the race

Mitt Romney lost the presidential race in the summer. It was the third week of July, and the Republican presidential candidate was flying across the Atlantic for an international tour designed to make him look like a commander-in-chief. The 2012 Summer Olympics in London were about to start, a global sporting event that campaign aides concluded would minimize media focus on the presidential campaign.

The republicans lost because we didnt fight fire with fire. Obama is looked upon as a "rock star" to many..even though he has not done much to deserve that. So what did the republicans do? They selected a prototypical guy to be their candidate: old rich white guy. Romneys a very good man but he is no rock star. Obama was very ripe to be beaten as he doesn't have much success to run on. Had republicans nominated someone who spoke to more of the average citizen I think they would have won. I just find it hard to believe that we couldnt have found someone other than the typical republican candidate.

Romney lost before he was nominated... Their bubble had them convinced otherwise.

He opened his mouth. End of story. Dear GOP - I hope you got the message.

Ikyabwai, what message would that be that we got? That you really dont have to show any progress in 4 years and can "write off" all your failures by blaming the previous guy? Even 4 years after your elected? Yah..I got that message loud and clear.

kingsxman: "Ikyabwai, what message would that be that we got? That you really dont have to show any progress in 4 years." Don't be absurd. Obama Progress == Since the end of the Bush disaster, Obama’s policies have: 1) moved the monthly jobs losses from over 700,000 per month to adding 200,000 new jobs per month (an increase of almost 1 million jobs per month); 2) offered multiple job-creating policies that the regressives in Congress have obstructed continuously in favor of tax giveaways to their wealthy masters; 3) helped the DJIA rise about 100% from its Bush-caused low; 4) provided basic health care reform that will allow millions to have insurance and simultaneously lower the deficit by $100 billion per year; 5) appointed two extremely intelligent women to the Supreme Court; 6) reformed predatory credit card practices; 7) removed most restrictions to federal funding of stem cell research; 8) ended Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell; 9) ended the unfunded Bush war in Iraq; 10) restored respect for America around the world; 11) got Bin Laden and other terrorists without loss of American life or torture, just competent intelligence; And managed FEMA recovery operations beautifully after Hurricane Sandy. What has Mitt accomplished in the last SIX years??? Two failed campaigns!

Come on, people. The primary reason Romney lost is because he would say anything to anybody that he thought would win him votes, including bald-faced lies. As his campaign went on, this became more and more obvious.

Yes, Romney is a perfect poster-boy for the .001% who view most Americans as serfs to serve the aristocracy. Somehow he was never able to shake that image despite saying anything and everything he thought the little people wanted to hear. Romney could wear jeans, eat cheesy grits, and profess to like teachers all day and not shed his aura of inherited entitlement.

I thought Romney lost when he allied himself with the Tea Party, an evangelical movement with clear disdain for Mormonism. Or did the Christian Right suddenly put aside their hatred of the other when he won the party's nomination?

Gardengurl has it right. Romney would have stood a decent shot had he just campaigned as a moderate republican. But instead he had to swing back and forth to suck up to others, and voters finally figured him out. As Mellencamp sings "You've got to stand for somethin', or you're gonna fall for anything."

Romney lost because his supporters are shallow thinkers who willingly ignore all Obama's failures no matter what evidence of incompetence is put right in front of them. They'd rather watch American Idol or some reality TV show because that's what they believe life is really like. Benghazi, where diplomats got killed because pleas for increased security were ignored? No problem. 8% unemployment? No problem. A corrupt justice dept that cooked up the Fast and Furious gun running scheme, got a border patrol agent killed and then ignored subpoenas from congress to come clean? No problem. Romney lost because people were willing to ignore hard evidence of wrongdoing and incompetence, coupled with a media which is dominated by the democrats. 50% of the voters wanted Obama gone. He does not have a mandate no matter what his supporters say. We're stuck with him for 4 more years and the amount of debt that he alone added can't be blamed on Bush, it's his and his alone.
