"Democrats also sought to paint Cravaack as a Tea Party extremist"...Pretty easy since that describes Chip perfectly.

It never WAS Oberstar's seat. It belongs to the people. WE decide who sits there.

"It never WAS Oberstar's seat. It belongs to the people. WE decide who sits there."----He treated as if it was. That was why he lost.

posted by stanbob "And what are nolan's ties to the district?".................... Considering Rick Nolan was born and grew up in the district and his kids grew up and went to school in the district and he has a business in the district and he hunts and fishes in the district and he volunteers in the district and serves on a board of a small town in the district, I would say he has deep and strong ties to the district and Minnesota. The better question would be "What ties does Cravaack have to the district?"

Very happy to see this. Born and raised in Duluth and lived there 27 years before moving to the TC area. Still go up there a lot and can honestly say that Chip is not right for the region, or any of Minnesota for that matter. Hopefully this now means good things forward for the Arrowhead region.

So being financially aware of all the spending we are doing is really bad for our economy is now 'Extreme'. Why is not wanting to spend more money than we have a bad thing?

Many in the district considered Cravaack to be a carpetbagger (or "pack-sacker" in Ranger language), and did have a real problem with it. When your family moves away from the district that soon after being elected, it sends a problematic message ("It's not good enough for MY family, but I want to be your Rep"). As an 8th district resident myself, I never thought Cravaack was a bad Representative or an "extremist." Considering how partisan the US House is, however, I'm glad it's back in Democratic hands.

Mr.Cravaack issue with living in the district was brought up by him when he ran against Oberstar. He pounded on Oberstar that he did not live in Chisolmn which is true. BUT Cravaack does not live here either and his crying about attacking his family was completely untrue. He also voted against fair working pay getting rid of Pell Grants. His town hall meetings were bogus. Anytime a question was asked against his policies or saw DFL quetioners he ran for the door.He also talked like the mines were closing down they will close down when the companies are not making money or the taconite runs out.Poly Met will be built if the company has enough capital besides all the grants and free money the state will dump in.They will get the permits needed. The projections of jobs is a bit high but if they get a buyer for the minerals the mine will open.

Whether you liked him or not, Oberstar served the 8th District well over the years but unfortunately he did look at it as his seat and took the previous election for granted. Although I liked Oberstar and voted for him, I thought he acted a bit childish when he lost the election and cooperated with the Cravaack transition as little as possible. I didn't agree with Cravaack's views but it was good to see in his concession speech that he was going to cooperate with Nolan on the transition. I will give him credit for that and wish him well in his future endeavors. I will also offer my congratulations to Nolan and wish him well in serving our 8th District.
