More comfortable with his role than he was as a freshman, Joe Coleman led the Gophers in scoring for the second exhibition in a row.

Well, Joe, this was Southwest Baptist - a school that you didn't even know existed until you saw this year's schedule. You should be able to score around the basket against these guys. You'll probably do well against Orlando's next hand-picked opponent, Northwest College for the One-Legged. After you get chewed up under the basket by by IU, MSU, OSU, Purdue and Michigan, we'll revisit your unacceptable shooting ability outside of 8 feet.

Good to hear but it was Southwest Baptist, after all and not the much stronger Northeast Baptist team or even the one from Central Baptist which is a much tougher program. I hope that Coleman does continue to play well once the team faces legitimate opposition. Mkwabe will most likely step on it given his record and will not be with he team all season so other players will have to come forward with good play.

Too bad he cant shoot a 15 ft jump shot which is a big problem for this team. This looks like more of the same-Tubby ball-mediocre at best

Face it Fans - Joe is 6' 4" and cannot shoot the ball! The gophers can rebound, defend, but shoot? The defense will pack it in and force the gophers to knock down the jumper. I wish Blake was still a gopher.

The two freshmen wing players are much better outside shooters than Coleman and Austin. Unfortunately, Ellenson is injured and Smith is moving Bugs to the number 4. Andre can only shoot well when playing a faster offense which Smith does not like to play and Welsh had his shooting mechanics changed during last year's preseason and is inconsistent as a result. We have not yet seen Williams to be a consistent outside shooter. Smith changed Eliason's shooting mechanics at the end of the Big Ten season last year and has not yet developed a reliable shot. This is a team that will have to play at a faster pace, something Smith does not like, get it's shots close to the basket and be fouled and shoot many more free throws to get off the bubble. The two freshmen can be valuable additions at the wing to improve the Gophers chances.
