Yes Jobs are like a magic trick. Here they are and then they are not here. What I do know is that most of the modest jobs are cast in very small wages and few benefits. These are not jobs that anyone would want to stay with for the future. And still there are big shorts of high skilled metal workers and now welders. You know why? Because most the Baby Boomers who knew those jobs are retiring. No longer to be seen again. And still most young people would rather go to college because that is what they have heard all of their lives. Dirty hands are for poor workers. I am not saying that is true or right, but if that is what they aim for, then that is what you will get.
