The Gophers saw opportunities come and go often in the first quarter in Saturday's loss to Michigan.

The team has to learn how to play four quarters of competitive football or the "W's" will be hard to get in the Big Ten. Even against Purdue they laid down mid way through the third quarter and into the 4th. They can't beat conference foes playing one or two quarters a game.

I see the chances of the Gophers becoming a successful team sooner than the Vikings.

Isn't lack of depth a big problem?

Lack of depth has been, and continues to be a problem. Coach Kill has tried to help that with some JuCo transfers for immediate help. He also tried to stock the pantry for the longer term with some redshirting, with middling success. In some cases, the redshirts get burned, in others, not so. The upshot will be a gradual building of depth where none existed before. One other thing helping with depth is the academic emphasis; BrewBoo's recruits had a habit of becoming academically ineligible. Keeping the kids eligible also helps with depth.

After watching the Gophers get clobbered in the end by Michigan playing without their talented QB, I can now understand why Coach Kill wanted North Carolina off of the schedule. His calls as well as the play of his team On Saturday after actually looking a little like a competitive football team against Purdue, got blown out in the end by the Wolverines through a typical route with bad and untimely penalties, a defense that could stop everything except the run and the pass when needed and questionable coaching calls, i.e. finding our that what works at small time U does not work in the Big Ten. Kill is just not ready for the big time and may well never be.

I agree with notside. In watching the game at TCF Coach Kill showed he was still coaching at NIU. His post game press conference proves the point. If you have such a young team why do a high risk, stupid fake field goal on a 4th and 16. At that point in the game the team was still in it. Instead of 14-10 we turn it over and the game is done. I have been a Kill supported but after this game with the coaching calls and decisions, it showed he should still be at NIU. He had a chance for a signature win, which this program needs and instead they are buried again with excuses.
