Without power so the gas stations can pump the gas, it won't get to the people who need it. But that's what central planning gets you.

As an East Grand Forks native I appreciate the ability to prepare and help your neighbors. What I am seeing from the helpless folks of NYC depending on government for everything I'm sure glad to be from Minnesota.

Actually, some comments have made the mistake of assuming this gas will be delivered to under ground fuel tanks where it will do no good. I suspect this fuel may be dispensed from the tankers themselves into containers that would allow power generators to run. Somehow, people just assume that the fuel was needed for transportation purposes. The people will need heat starting tonight and this should help this situation somewhat.

Further, maybe there are some lessons to be learned from this. Chris Christie just imposed a odd/even license plate rationing plan. The only problem with that is how easy it is to move license plates from one car to another. Also, at least one politician (mayor of New York?) has issued a proclamation saying you cannot enter the city in a car with less than three people. Perhaps it is true about necessity being the mother of invention.

Finally, when I heard the media report that there was plenty of fuel, but no way to pump it, my only question was why portable generators were not used to run the pumps at the gas stations and wouldn't that be a priority? I may be missing something though, in the fact that maybe the generators could not, for some reason, be tied into the electrical system of a gas station. Anybody know anything about this?

I guess all the "expert" posts here have a clear understanding of the logistics involved. Apparently, this was all the President's fault, and he's doing nothing to fix it. I apologize for the man I voted for, and WILL AGAIN!

Either way, the scale of this disaster is probably bigger than anything you've seen in the weat fields of east Grand Forks or the suburbs of Minnesota. Frankly, I'd rather a government that helps in a disaster than a Romney/Bachmann government that would sit back and let you starve.

Where was the foresight? Bush was incinerated for his inaction post katrina, and this is shaping up to be worse. Apologize away, this is ineptitude, 2012.
