Believe it or not, the 20th Amendment to the Constitution envisions such a possibility.

Enough with the bizarro world scenarios. President Obama is going to win both the popular AND electoral vote. 'Nuff said.

How do "it could happen" scenarios advance public understanding of the issues at stake in this election? How does the obsession with the horse race advance the state of democracy in the US? How does making voting difficult reflect on the exceptional nature of the American political system? How do money-grubbing campaigns reflect on our national character?

And here I thought that a Romney presidency would be the single worst thing that could possibly happen to America?! I couldn't live in a country with this ideological little fascist at the helm.

Despite attempts to bastardize it, our Constitution continues to be a reliable map. There is no doubt that it will continue to be so despite the ridiculous postulations of this-or-that member of the press.

Yahoo! headline: "Ryan says Obama compromises 'Judaeo-Christian' values." So then--Romney/Ryan's final argument is a return to their alliterative litany of malaise "Decline, debt, doubt and despair" and an appeal to evangelicals to consider dogma above all other issues--including Romney's policy at Bain of "harvesting" small businesses for Bain's profit by loading them down with debt, off-shoring American jobs to China, stealing workers' pensions, shipping machinery of production to Chinese factories, shuttering factories--hurting families and communities.

Coupla questions: (1) What kind of Judaeo-Christian values support such actions? (2) Do Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan believe in JFK's America? An America where the separation of church and state is absolute? An America where no Archbishop would order priests to tell parishioners that their vote should be informed by a single issue of Catholic dogma? An America where no church is granted political preference while accepting taxpayer funds and claiming tax exemptions?

We've just had 4 years of the absolute worst president of all time and the ongoing possibility that Jivin' Joe Biden could become president so "Acting President Ryan" doesn't sound bad to me. I'm one of those independents who are voting for hope and change in 2012 - Romney/Ryan.

Is this supposed to be a thought experiment, or just a doomsday scenario designed to get people to the polls?

The senate isn't mentioned in this scenario. It does say that the Dems pick up some seats in the House however, so if the Dems also retain control of the Senate, in a Paul Ryan presidency, it would be more than likely that anything a teacon House would pass would be, as it has been these last two years, DOA in the Senate. Gridlock would be here to stay for the duration of a Paul Ryan presidency.
