Where the elite compete varies for soccer stars

Many top players chose to develop their skills at a soccer academy, which has hurt the caliber of high school play.

The premise of this article is just silly. It does not "hurt" the caliber of high school play to have these players leave, any more than dividing into classes based on school size "hurts" the caliber of play. High school soccer is about a great activity with your high school community, not about developing the most "elite" players. It's a shame that 45 players have been hooked into this so-called "elite academy" instead of being allowed to enjoy soccer with their high school friends. They will realize years from now that they gave up this wonderful part of their high school experience, only to be "practice fodder" and "budget balancers" for the very few kids who will actually benefit long-term from any "elite academy." Let's focus coverage on those who have chosen high school, instead of those who have rejected it.
