There were highs during the inaugural seasons and the Kevin Garnett era, but mostly, fans have refused to reach out to the game and its stars.

Sorry to disagree, Pat, but any resemblance to basketball and the NBA is purely coincidental. College basketball is much better, although in div 1 its starting to look too much like the NBA.

Why should I care about the NBA or the Timberwolves? I choose what I want to spend my time on, and when my life comes to an end, I won't shed a single tear for all the NBA games I didn't watch. There's a big difference between sports as an activity, which is a positive and healthy thing, and sports as entertainment or filling up time. The NBA is a waste of time.

What's exciting about throwing a ball into a staionary hoop that is not guarded? What is exciting about someone jumping three inches to dunk a ball? Hockey is the authentic sport that rules this region!

.. Patrick..its very difficult to make a commitment to a Team whose history shows they will not make long term commitmemt to their key players. KGs just a example of a franchise player Taylor refused to Sign.. Love and Rubio are two others. Are we supposed to pay to "ooh and ah" over other teams franchise players who are signed to long term deals like Durant, James, Bryant etc just for the sake of what? the beauty of the game?. Well it some other teams beauty so its hard to pay for. We have zero Franchise players until we have one signed and committed. Khan wants "Flexability" . So while we can watch Love and Rubio play for awhile, until and if they sign for the long term, all we have is a team full of rentals. Tough to embrace that.

Patrick, I love ya man but you're forgetting a few key details as to why the Wolves are not doing well here. That 2005 season for example, was marred in contract squabbles with Sam Cassel and the ever popular "I've got my family to feed." Sprewell. A professional athlete turning his nose up at a 21 million dollar contract left a sour taste in a lot of NBA fans mouths. And from there it just went down hill.To the point the mismanaged Wolves had to let one of our favorite sons go, and even then we came away with nothing while Boston won the ring. How was our attendance last year? How about 14th best in the NBA? No sir your article is ill timed as there are a lot of us old NBA fans looking forward to this season, and many of us came out last season to show our support...

Businesses that don't respect their customers usually go out of business. That includes basketball franchises and newspapers.

A year or two I saw an add for the Wolves that said, "We're re-re-re-re-re-rebuilding." At some point, the futility wears down. And, I think there are better options for your sports dollar: college basketball, lacrosse, even roller derby! There's more passion in those sports than what we see at the Target Center (plus the later actually gives their excess money to charity).

minfan2, Taylor gave Garnett a 126 Million contract over 6 years. You do not believe that shows commitment?

There are NO "major league" pro franchises in the Twin Cities...the t-p's included. (NOTE: the wild really isn't even playing in the Twin Cities or anywhere else at this point in time...) No amount of "spin" you try to put on it will change anything for the t.p's, in this case, the vikqueen, the twinks or, if they ever show up...the wild. They are just too small to be MAJOR in any way, shape or form. The ownership smacks. The professional players smack. It's NOT working. It NEVER has. It NEVER will. And, in the really don't matter much... ; 0 )

I think you should start doing some work reflecting your views of "fantsy football..." And cover the DRAFT for all these professional sports. Gambling and fantasy football are the two best things the nfl could be considered "good for..." ; 0 )
