Nate's Clothing building to go boutique

A hotel company plans to turn the former Nate's Clothing building into an upscale hotel with a ground-floor restaurant.

Years ago I listened to a pitch for the need to build a boutique hotel in Minneapolis -- the Whitney. Maybe you remember it. It came, it had a list of high profile guests in the penthouse, it became a Hyatt, and now after some wrangling with the city council over whether they could modify the facade, it became condos... maybe all of these stages in the life cycle were successful. I don't know if MCDA funded it back in the day, it was an era of much higher interest rates, but it might be something to have an intern look into to see if there are lessons to be learned.

I just hope they can do something about the stink that's ever present on that block on the 1st Ave side. I've never been able to figure it out, but its stinky there!
