Look at lowering the rims for women’s basketball as affirmative action for the weaker sex. (OK – it is a joke!! Get over it!!)

"What makes fans not want to watch women's basketball is that some of the players can't shoot and they miss layups" --- Wow. What a statement.

Dunking the ball has never been impressive. Making it easier for women to do will not 'excite' the sport. BUT, it most certainly would give the TenderPups a lame excuse for why the Lynx kick butt compared to them.

how 'bout raising the men's to 11 feet?

Short term, lowering the rim will lower shooting percentages. Players who have spent years shooting at a 10-foot rim will have to instantly adjust to a 9-foot, 5-inch rim. I just think this is a bad idea.

Incredibly dumb idea. One reason I like women's basket ball is that there isn't a lot of dunking, making the game different, a little more like it was intended when concieved. The Women's game is changing. Passing, shooting, everthing has evolved. Lowering the rim will take away from the game, not add to it. A better idea is to raise the basket for the men's game. The power basketball allowed around the hoop and the four step approach allowed for would be dunkers has cheapend the game imeasurably. Raise the men's basket and enforce the rules (traveling especially) that should govern the game. Major collissions, impacts and confrontations would be reduced dramatically. Don't make the women's game like the men's.

Willy53, you nailed it. Especially the part about the women's game being more like the game of basketball was intended to be. It's why I enjoy watching the WNBA more than the NBA...that and the absence of the huge ego's and "gangsta" mentality so prevalent in the NBA.

The biggest problem with basketball, women's and men's, is the focus on "dunking" as though it is the ultimate goal. Many players today are incapable of shooting a simple layup with their less dominant hand which would add to a player's scoring tools. Not to mention the lack of defense when for example a right handed player comes in from the left hand side with the ball in the right hand. What a present for a defensive player. Then of course there is the inability to shoot the pull up jump shot at the 10 to 15 foot mark. Basketball used to focus on skills (Jabbar, Isah Thomas, Magic, Larry Bird) but has migrated to a game similar to football where pushing and shooving and dunking are important.

"What makes fans not want to watch women's basketball is that some of the players can't shoot and they miss layups and that forces the game to slow down,"----Yeah, that's pretty much why I don't watch women's basketball.
