Not big news, it would have been headline material if they had decided to pick up the option though. Especially with the payroll being constricted so ridiculously as it has the last couple years. Baker is actually a decent pitcher, hope he comes back from the surgery strong. He's not worth 9+ mil though. MAYBE half that.

I have go agree, at least the Twins are now watching their money (Mauer, why don't you help out and give some of your salary back to the Twins so that they can get some quality pitchers, aren't you tired of losing?). Still can't beleive that the Twins kept their pitching coach - a bad move by the management. Let's see if Baker comes back to us - he is an average pitcher, but probably would help the Twins.

100% agree that they not pick up Baker's $9.25 option, but I also think he is well worth it to negotiate an incentive laden contract. He was a very good pitcher before the surgery and now could come back and be dominant again. Time will tell.

At least we have Blackburn if Baker goes elsewhere.

It still amazes me at the amount of money sports players make. It does not make sense for the average person.
