Both teams are 5-3. For Vikings fans, the sky is falling after a blowout loss at home to Tampa Bay. Gophers fans are suddenly much more on board with the Philip Nelson era.

What the Vikings need to do is find uniforms for Philip Nelson and Michael Carter.

The first place Bears now have a two game cushion in the NFC North Division and the Packers are now tied with the purple for second place in the division. The vikings will be heading into the toughest second half of a season in years so it is safe to say that their season is over in regard to the "pipe dream" they wanted us to believe in regards to them making the playoffs. As bad as this club is they will be lucky to finish the season 7-9!!!

The Gophers are not world-beaters...yet. This was Purdue, after all. Anybody can be a pre-season Rose Bowl pick, but Purdue has steadily underperformed. However, it was a great win for the Gophers, a momentum-creator going into Michigan week. The rebuilding process is on the move at the U, but there will be more challenges on the way. As for the Vikings....they are in a strange place; sometimes good, sometimes bad, and very streaky. There is not much consistency yet. 8-8 or 7-9 is a very likely outcome, and no playoffs this year. Sure, Ponder needs help, but he is not to the point of being abandoned. One area that must be shorn up is the defense; this is not a Viking defense. The offensive line could use some help, too. AP cannot carry everything, as a runner's life in the NFL tends to be short. The passing game MUST take some heat off of him.
