So it's a construction project that benefits Minneapolis, and ONLY Minneapolis, and the city pays for less than 3% of it? Projects like this need to be trimmed out of the state budget and put on the tab of the local areas.

Seriously, stung4ever? Would love to see a small community in outstate Minnesota pay for their own bridge repairs without help from the rest of the state.

More than just people from Minneapolis use this bridge.

So glad that the politicians and the contractors are pleased with their work. Makes me feel warm and happy.

The bridge is built. There likely were some problems/challenges during its construction which added to the cost. It is fairly obvious that the commissionerss wanted an iconic design, which automatically means greater expense. It is also fairly obvious that they were irresponsible with managing costs and how it was paid for. The cost over run would sink any private business venture, but because it is taxpayer money... just rubber-stamp away. Glad the bridge is completed, but no one should be proud of what's been accomplished -- this isn't the St.Louis Archway. Nice bridge, but everything associated with its construction has been a disaster financially.

The bridge was budgeted at $33 million to build. The govt overspent by $115 million. Does anyone see that govt spending is out of control and bankrupting this country? It is easy to spend other peoples money with no accountability. This bridge is criminal, someone should be charge with stealing and squandering public money.

A splendid result. (And, to really give this achievement a statewide perspective: as a mayor, Rybak has managed to have built one bridge more than the do-nothing Michele Bachmann.)

I am sure there will be a lot of people unhappy with the cost of this bridge. Many of these same people will be okay with spending $50 to $100 million for voter I.D equipment

More than $60 million over budget! If you aren't outraged over this you obviously aren't a taxpayer.
