Billy Smith, special assistant to the President and GM, was perhaps a genius in his own mind regarding player development and trades. He gave Delmon Young, MVP in 2012 ALCS, to Detroit for basically nothing; traded Wilson Ramos to the Nationals for Mad Capps who the Twins decided at the end of the current season was not worth another year. Perhaps Smith's boldest statement as the Twins GM was to comment the Twins could compete against the large market teams with pitchers such as Nick Blackburn. As Paul Harvey would say ending his commentary about anything, "and that is the rest of story". Paul might have had a commentary about the current sorry state of the Twins with a narrative about Billy Smith as GM of the Twins.
