The KFC in mounds view is the worst run fast food restaurant in the state. Sticky floor, no heat, two people in the entire restaurant and the one running the cash register is always clueless, never have any of the advertised specials, and the pop machine is always out of syrup. Other than that they are great. Too bad they aren't among those being changed.

Popeye's is awesome! Best red beans and rice anywhere, great spicy chicken, biscuits and jambalaya. This will be a great improvement over KFC; the store in my neighborhood NEVER shovels the snow off the sidewalk! However it was originally named after Popeye Doyle (played by Gene Hackman in The French Connection, the film with the best car chase scene in cinematic history) and not Popeye the Sailor. Too bad Hackman wouldn't license his likeness with the porkpie hat!

I've always liked the Richfield KFC and Burnsville KFC off of 35W but Popeyes is as good in my book.

Popeyes is really really good. Not healthy but you have to enjoy every once in awhile.

Popeye's is awesome. The KFC in Hopkins is already closed. Can't wait until they reopen as Popeye's!

@triode: initially there was a licensing arrangement with King Features, and the New Orleans Popeye's at least prominently featured the sailor, Olive Oyl, and most of the main characters in the 80s (except Wimpy, who wasn't a chicken kind of guy.) it is worth it to wait the 15 minutes for the extra-spicy special order, I can tell you that! Popeye's and strawberry pop, excellent tasty stuff!

I long for the return of the Golden Age of locally owned multiple store businesses such as Froggy's and Clark's Submarine shops ... Froggy's radio ads were the best! Locally owned and operated - always clean; always fresh and staff always polite ... because the employees never knew when the real owner would walk in! You never walked away disppointed or hungry! Good luck to Popeye's!

KFC should have just stuck with the Original Recipe® and never introduced the extra crunchie crapola that they brought in to hide smaller, inferior pieces of chicken in order to make it look bigger and better. It did not work. Their prices kept rising and their service keeps sliding. Some of that coleslaw has been sittin' on the refrigerator shelves since Spring of '09. They deserve to be run out of town. I can't wait to give Popeyes a try. But both of them had better run for the hills when Chick Fil-A finally gets here. Set their political views aside, they make delicious food and run a tight ship.
