I only would have asked one more question. "Would you favor this as a law rather than an amendment?" I think you would see another side of this. I have no problem with voter I.D. The problem I have with THIS particular amendment is that literally everybody that votes for it, is voting for something totally unknown with the details not being released as to what would actually happen. If a MN driver's license was NOT accepted as proof of anything, and all of us had to go get a government approved voter I.D. card, you would be seeing a different results in this poll. I am so perplexed as to why people in this state and country, are so willing to vote for something or someone, who REFUSES to give details about how everything is going to happen. Ignorance is bliss is all I can come up with.

Supporters should not count their chickens before they hatch. There will be a certain number of ballots with this issue unmarked. They count as a NO.

Why don't the pollsters ask people's opinions of the actual amendment - not what's on the ballot. Here are the words of the actual amendment: -------------------------------------------------All voters voting in person must present valid government-issued photographic identification before receiving a ballot. The state must issue photographic identification at no charge to an eligible voter who does not have a form of identification meeting the requirements of this section. A voter unable to present government-issued photographic identification must be permitted to submit a provisional ballot. A provisional ballot must only be counted if the voter certifies the provisional ballot in the manner provided by law. (c) All voters, including those not voting in person, must be subject to substantially equivalent identity and eligibility verification prior to a ballot being cast or counted. _______________________________ pollsters: ask that question and see how many people support it!

Who is going to pay for all these "free" IDs? This is an unneccessary tax burden. More cuts to our schools and first responders for this?

Why doesn't the ballot question mention that this will institute a new system of "provisional balloting"? This amendment is a mess -- send it back. Vote NO.

It's quite interesting that the survey shows that 36% believe that voter fraud is somewhat of a problem or a major problem in Minnesota. This is about the same number that believe in UFO's and that Elvis is still alive. I don't doubt that these are same people. It just goes back to that old saying, “you can fool some of the people all the time, all the people some of the time, but not all the people all of the time!” There are a lot of fools out there right now. Vote NO!

I live in Itasca county and get my ballot mailed to me, I'm 56 miles from my polling site, Grand Rapids, MN. In Nothern MN, Nov 6 we can have 2 feet of snow on our remote dirt/gravel roads. We don't move much during a storm. Maybe for days, if trees are down after storm, blocking roads. This is an everyday winter/summer happening in North county. If Voter ID goes into effect no vote for me cause I won't get to my polling p[lace. This Star/Trib poll is fine but note the amount of people polled in the NE and NW of the state compared to folks in the METRO whose polling place is a few blocks from their house. Poll Northern MN and I am sure your results will be very different. Our polling places are far a few between. . . miles of backroads to get there and back home. Not a few folks live in North country, thousands live up here. I am an Election judge and have been for 15 years. On Election years, I watch weather and if looks like it will be bad on election day. I go to Grand Rapids the day before and get a motel room so I know I'll be there on Election day so I can judge. Not everyone up here can drive 112 miles round trip to vote,if bad weather is coming. We have a CLEAN voting system in MN. Our state is the Star other states try to copy when it comes to voting. A law passed on Voter ID can be worked on after passing,a constitutional amendment is written in stone. Takes an act of legislature to change/then vote of people. Send it back to the writers, have them clean it up and show all parts of it, then call for a vote. Right now I vote NO. jerdixon

"I am so perplexed as to why people in this state and country, are so willing to vote for something or someone, who REFUSES to give details about how everything is going to happen." .......................... The system doesn't work that way. Once the amendment is passed the appropriate laws and rules are developed to promulgate it. An amendment is an action by the people, which in effect charges their elected representatives with the duty of implementation. It would be illogical, as well as impossible, to expect a precise list of "how everything is going to happen" at this point of the process. That has to come later.
