In 2009, the economy was headed into the tank, jobs were being shed by the hundreds of thousands per month, we had two wars on the credit card, we were looking at a repeat of the great depression. In the time since 10/2009 when things stabilized, unemployment has fallen month-over-month, companies are starting to onshore jobs they moved in the 2000's, the economy continues to grow. People are frustrated because they expect miracles. As I tell my daughter, there are two types of people in this world, those who are happy for what they have, and those who are unhappy for what they don't have. I think we are seeing the later move for Romney.
New construction starts nationwide rose 15 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 872,000 units. That is 82.5 percent above the rate of 478,000 hit in March l, 2009. This means paychecks for carpenters, plumbers and electricians will begin rippling. It means sales of furniture and appliances, curtains and carpets, windows and fixtures. They’ll be hiring at Home Depot! Housing prices nationwide are up 14%; distressed sales are at lowest level since 2008; September auto sales – 1.19 million vehicles – were the highest in four years. September retail sales were the best in two years. The stock market is back to where it was before the recession. 401(k)s are restored. Interest rates are low. Banks are lending. Inflation’s under control. Taxes are as low as they’ve been since 1950. Corporations report record profits. Natural gas and oil production is at an all time high. Americans' net worth is up $9 trillion since 2009. These are visible, measurable signs of progress made the past four years.
The main reason why Clinton won in 1992 may be the same reason Romney wins...In the words of James Carville: "it's the economy, stupid!"
Massive tax breaks for the wealthy + Global recession + two wars = massive deficits. Brought to you by Bush & the neocons, who suddenly became deficit hawks the day Obama took office.
What this story fails to mention is that Romney is giving his big economic speech today at a firm in Ames, Iowa that received nearly $700,000 in FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY! Kinzler Construction Services got $689,314 in stimulus funds for public schools in Iowa and Nebraska, a community center, and station for Des Moines public transit. How would the Romney campaign not know that before scheduling an appearance there???????????????
I didn't see any mention in this article about Libya and how the current administration handled it. All that was mentioned were items intended to bring Romney down.
"it's the economy, stupid!".... and Romney's budget will gut programs for the poor and middle class, increase taxes on the middle class, cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy, and with the large increases in military spending he's promising he increases the deficit. The worst of all possible outcomes. Then we'll hear the Republican's reverting to how the deficit doesn't really matter as long as it's for military spending and tax cuts for "job creators".
How's it going for Obama's foreign policies: China, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran... We haven't seen this much failure in foreign policy since 1942.
Romney has absolutely no plan for the middle class, just a plan to get their vote. Believe me, the middle class will be hurt and medicare gutted. Hope you all plan to work till you are 70, at the very least.
"How's it going for Obama's foreign policies: China, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran... We haven't seen this much failure in foreign policy since 1942." .... you must be very concerned that Romney was agreeing with President Obama's foreign policy in the third debate.
