Smith has been a disaster since he got the Golden Gopher land. He recruits well enough then can't keep the recruits. Players should improve each year and the do not. Now he has a "double standard" between how his son should be treated and Mbakwe. Here is the real test for Tubby...Are the Gophers recording improving ? Are we making progress ? If not, please Tubby retire.

Hey, I love the Gophers but ... are they going to now have a special basketball Goldy mascot in silver and black with an eye patch and crossed swords under his chin? C'mon guys! I hope they can put this behind them and have a season!

AD Norwood Teague is a puppet of Tubby Smith's! Why can't the so-called leaders at the U do the right thing? That being giving Tubby and Saul cardboard boxes with which to carry their personal belongings out to their vehicles AND cutting off all payments immediately? Then, kicking Mbakwe off of the team because I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that his college education (aka a degree) will suffice in order for him to survive in the future. This "barn" definitely has a lot of "donkeys" in it (feel free to substitute the word "donkey" with its other connotation).

TUBBY SMITH still insists that Trevor Mbakwe is "a good man and a man of character" despite the fact that Mbakwe pled no contest in the Miami assault case and subsequently racked up two criminal convictions and extended probation? Tubby's decision to shrug off Mbakwe's criminal history as mere mistakes is pathetic. The pertinent question here is not "Can things get any worse?" but "How low will Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague and U of M Prez Eric Kaler allow Gophers head coaches to set the student-athlete/assistant coaches behavior bar?" Meanwhile, back in Lexington KY, defending national champion Kentucky Wildcats head coach John Calipari has commitments from high school kids that will give UK the #1 ranked recruiting class for the fifth consecutive year. The players include 6'5" Houston TX twins Aaron and Andrew Harrison, considered the best shooting guard and point guard in the country, respectively. Tubby Smith can't even get blue chip prospects like the Harrison twins to visit the campus, let alone sign with Minnesota. Gophers men's basketball will be stuck in neutral as long as Tubby is the head coach.

@SeaShark So you decide to attack Smith's character while contrasting him with Calipari, a coach who does not have a Final Four appearance that has not been vacated due to NCAA violations? Talk about a double standard.

And for those who don't know, there is a basketball season starting in about a week.

This is the beginning of the end for Tubby.

"It's a higher standard," said Smith, who allowed athletic director Norwood Teague to lead the decision-making process on Saul Smith's punishment because he is "a parent first." ------ What, how does a coach ALLOW the athletic director to make a decision. Isn't that what a AD is paid to do?

What Tubby should have thought immediately upon hearing about his son's arrest was, "Did he hurt anyone?"

Given his history, you can be sure that Mkwabe will step in it during the season and be kicked off of the team as a result leaving folks to wonder why Smith kept him on the team after the latest incident and didn't play someone else in his stead. Then an injury or two and we will be looking at yet another bubble team, for the NIT, that is.
