It doesn't sound as if this terrain was stable, which is why planks were used. How planks should be stable on top of marsh/mud, I don't know. I hope that even as a contractor this man has some coverage to his loved ones to manage his loss. Contractors now are being given difficult tasks, lackluster training, little support and no security. We need to encourage more hiring, benefits, security and protections for workers who put themselves out there for employers every day.

Who is doing this work? Who is paying for it? What are the qualifications for the job that proved fatal for this guy? Readers want to know. This should be as big a story as police shootings.
