That's Obama's style, and it plays better with men than with women.
Obama seemed to be trying to impress the debate audience with machoism. My wife and I watched the debate. We thought Obama acted very unpresidential, with no class or dignity. He was abusive, intrusive, not respectul and unfair in his demeanor. We asked ourselves if this is how he deals with others in meetings with them. His comments of derision such as "Governor Romney, we have submarines, they are ships that go underwater"...comments and his "Governor, we do not use bayonettes and horses anymore in case you did not know.." and "well, I am glad that Governor Romney agrees with me that Al Queda is bad" . Wow, he was childlike in his attacks. My wife said she was very uncomfortable watching Obama. The more he acts like a spoiled child, the more we realize he does not deserve to be president.
And yet, we are told that Romney is ahead in the polls with men, that men like Romney much more than they like Obama and vice versa with women, women prefer Obama over Romney. So I'd say this article is in direct conflict with the preceived wisdom on the preferences of men and women when it comes to Romney and Obama.
From the article: "[Vengeance is] Obama's style, and it plays better with men than with women." In my opinion, the entire never-ending-war, military industrial complex, no-limitations on-military power mindset is a throwback to frontier days of rugged individuals. Vengeance for the deaths of 3000 was the reason Congress authorized the use of force in Afghanistan. Mythical weapons of mass destruction was the reason Congress authorized the use of force in Iraq. In neither case did Congress levy a tax to pay for military action. President Obama has actually drawn down US military presence in Iraq and has set a date certain for withdrawal from Afghanistan. He refused to have our military drawn into Libya and, so far, into Syria. He includes care of veterans and has decreased the percentage of veterans who can't find employment when they separate from service. His budget maintains the military budget at its current level, higher than the military budgets of the next ten nations combined; Romney's proposal is to add $2 trillion over the next decade. Romney did not mention veterans's issues during his convention speech or in the foreign policy debate. If Obama's actions have given him an issue which plays well with old white men, more power to him!
whalling? What was in that kool-aid you and your wife where drinking during the debate or did you and your wife suddenly realize your emperor has no cloths and your in denial? When I first started reading this I thought you were quoting The Fox Commentary(sorry)... News Network. Do you really think writing this will make it so? Oh wait that is the Republican approach to campaigning isn't it? Repeat it enough and be magically because reality.
Re: "My wife said she was very uncomfortable watching Obama." Didn't it make her feel more comfortable when Romney agreed with the President on every foreign policy decision that was discussed? when Romney endorsed the President's policies without exception--including his Etch A Sketch moment about withdrawing from Afghanistan in 2014?
Note mis-print (Repeat it enough and be magically because reality.) Should read; Repeat it enough and it magically becomes reality.
pumice; interesting point, the thing is I really don't think the polls are accurate. I really cant buy that 47% of America is picking Romney, if that is really the case this country has big problems looking forward. I think the media is going to be scrambling for answers as to what went with there polling come 11/7, if not late 11/6.
Didn't it make her feel more comfortable when Romney agreed with the President on every foreign policy decision that was discussed?
It was a strategy that worked. Romney looked and sounded presidential, professional and respectful. He was going for the likability factor - and won. Obama looked like a caricature from some movie. Borderline evil.
"Obama looked like a caricature from some movie. Borderline evil." Where are you people coming from, some la la wonderland? So this is how we chose a President; shameful. Please refrain from voting for the sake of this county.
Romney also distanced himself from Bush by his answers on foreign policy. For independents that like obama's so-called foreign policy they should now be more comfortable with Romney. Conservatives may not have liked it but they will not turn away from Romney because of it. You people really have no clue as to what Romney did Monday night!
