A full season after the end of any CBA hasn't been a reality since the day Bettman took office.

The union wants anything and everything open for discussion. Bettman wouldn't agree to those terms, so the hockey season remains in peril...... Dearjohn130, what is Bettman unwilling to talk to the union about ?...... I am guessing this goes back to the revenue sharing problem and solving it for the NHL

This revenue sharing issue is looking bigger and bigger in every major sport. I would hate to be on either side of the issue. The one thing that really bugs me, why does everyone think that they can play a full schedule with fewer dates to play on? I personally think that the NHL season lasts to long anyhow. Who really wants to see hockey played when it it 80 degress out in the Spring (end the season in about February/March)? I have to side with the owners anyhow, they are the ones putting up the money.

Mr. Bettmann, I know what the owners want you to get from the players and that is total and unconditional surrender. Don't wait by the phone. Whats worse is that the league and the owners have not negotiated in good faith. From their first offer forward, they have all been designed to receive the immediate and total disapproval of the players, and they have. As a long time fan this troubles me immensly. I want the season to commence. I want to see my new and improved Wild. I want to see my Les Habitants, not to mention my Dallas NorthStars. Mr. Bettmann, I encourage you to go to the moron owners that are holding up our season, and ask them to put together a realistic offer that the players can respond to in good faith. And by the way, If you'll get rid of your hired gun political operative Frank Luntz, I'll try to give a sliver of understanding to your side of the issues. Hiring him Gary; nothing short of tasteless, classles, and designed and guaranteed to prolong a situation that already appears without end...

I just saw a story that said the Winter Classic would be on the "chopping block" if a resolution of the CBA isnt achieved in the next couple of days. I love the WC, it is a great event, but for an event that is as much a league promo/media event, and only involves about 6% of the PA membership in a given season, I'm not sure what the point of publicizing the cancellation of the WC would be. It's moot as a negotiating point. Frank Luntz war on the players???

Move some of the teams from the south who's fans don't give a crap about into "Hockey" states and Canada. One would think the league would make more dough that way right?

It is good to see that a few people are figuring out Mr. Bettman. He is the league commisioner by the way and the players are the most important component of the league so why is he always on the other side of the table from them instead of being the facilitator he should be in his position ? He also said he does not want to negotiate publically and yet they publicized their last offer to the players. Somebody speaks with a forked tougue and you wonder why the players brought in Fehr.

Owners want to break the players union. They are manipulating the negotiations to get the season canceled. Next season the owners will put together a new league signing whatever players (NHL, AHL, juniors and college) that will agree to their contract terms.
