Yes this yrs draft was a success. Dont forget the Kicker, that has been more important than you realize. Even more than Kluwe talking about the left wing agenda. Speilman gets credit for the draft, now lets build on it and get some more defensive players (CB, DT, S) to make this a defense than can stop people. We also need a new punter.

Good points Jim. But I am starting to think that Alan Williams needs to get some more credit than he is currently getting for the play of the defense. It's basically the same players, except for Smith (which is huge I admit), but the scheming each week seems so well thought out. All the stars on the opponents are being held in check, getting sacks, turnovers, etc. Time to give some credit to coaching since we always blame it when things go bad...

Perfect example of the exact opposite player they want - Bryant "extra mayo" McKinnie. One of Frazier's best moves was cutting him to send a message that laziness won't be tolerated.

It is nice to get a positive article from Souhan for a change. I agree with the points he made and also agree that our rookie kicker has been an important improvement. Booting kickoffs out of the endzone all the time doesn't allow opponents the chance to get a big return and he has only missed one field goal so far. Solid drafts are how to build a good team.

I had my doubts (based on his history), but Spielman deserves credit for our recent drafts. One or two more good drafts and we will have a very good team!

Let's wait until the vikings face the tough part of their schedule down the stretch before call their 5-2 start a success!!! Getting torched by two rookie QBs in Luck and RGIII is embarrassing enough but just wait until the vikings are forced to play playoff caliber teams like the Bears, Texans, Seattle and the Packer then we will see what this overrated club is really all about!!!

Like the prplestooge said, let's wait until this club can beat some playoff caliber teams (especially on the road) before we call anything this club does this season a "success". It is extremely troubling that the vikings lost to the Colts and Reskins (on the road nonetheless) given that they have rookie QBs at the healm. It doesn't look good for the purple in the second half of the season because they will be playing above average teams like the Bears (twice) Packers (twice) Seattle (on the road) and the Texans (on the road). The purple are notorious losers when they play on the road especially when they face teams with winning records. If they beat even one of these clubs mentioned above on the road then you can write this article with some truth behind it!!!

At the beginning of the year, did anyone expect to be saying anything about "let's see if they can beat playoff teams - On The Road!!!" I'm enjoying their play so far. Should've beaten the Colts, could've beaten the Skins. I look forward to the second half - maybe they'll take a couple teams down.

We've beaten playoff-caliber teams in SF and Detroit, albeit Detroit is suffering from injuries and dropped passes (only one year removed from the playoffs). We dominated SF with their own game; strong run game and sound defense. We can still win plenty of games with that formula, even though this has developed into a pass-happy league. If Ponder can get better protection, he can and will make any throw. Through 17 games, he's amassed 60% completion %, 3246 yds, 22 TD and 19 INT. Favre, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees all had similar numbers through their first 17 games. This kid will get better and be a force to be reckoned with.

This season can be deemed a "success" already. The Vikings last year were one of those teams "you should beat" and now they are handling such teams. In my personal opinion, I thought if the Vikes would go 8-8 with this young, young team, the future bodes very well for this team. There was no thought of playoffs in the preseason, just improvement - yet here we are, almost midway thru the season and they have the 3rd best record in the conference.
