There sure seems like there is more to this story then what is mentioned in this article. Why would the city pick on a small wind turbine that is even pretty small for "home" wind turbines? Do they have a hidden agenda or what?

Mr Nygard's case is a win for what little is left of everyone's property rights. Every homeowner should be allowed a wind generator. "This has to do with small people being able to do what they need to with their property, and cities helping them accomplish their goals as opposed to being detrimental to their goals," Oh, and Orono? Na na na NA, Na na na NA, HEY hey Good Bye...

As an Orono resident I congratulate Mr. Nygard and ask the city council to immediately cease this grudge match. There's no excuse for throwing more tax dollars into this fight, never was. This fight was not about the wind turbine, it was a personal attack on Mr. Nygard, a former city council member. Now I'm going to run down to city hall and get a permit for my new wind turbine.

This sounds like the same kind of thinking that favors chemical-drenched lawns of non-native turf grass over local native plants or vegetables. The kind of reasoning that promotes gigantic energy-sucking palaces and enormous vehicles on asphalt over energy-efficient construction and transportation. The values that promote extraction technologies while wasting energy sources that are all around us all the time. Short-term thinking that can't see past the next quarterly bonus and preserving the status quo at all costs is what has gotten us into the perilous situation where we find ourselves today. I've seen these turbines. They're less ugly than the party gazebos all over Lake Minnetonka's shoreline. And at least they serve a purpose.

I AT&T can put up a 400-foot tower within sight of the BWCAW I say a private property owner can put up a little windmill within sight of Lake Minnetonka, which has been ruined by McMansions already anyway. His neighbors have overstepped trying to stop it.
