Stop the pre-spawn netting already! This lake has suffered from this atrocity enough!

Lower the limits!

Netting is a great way to decimate a fish population. By the way, I don't fish Mille Lacs, so I don't have a dog in the fight.

genericloginOct. 22, 1212:54 PM

Geee, so netting during the spawn is a bad thing? Who would have thunk it!? They net them right off their spawning beds. I wonder how much of the 320K sportfish total was hooking mortality from having to release the 17" plus fish? Keeper size were tough to come by after the early part of the season so I would have a hard time believing 320K pounds of actual keepable fish were caught.

Who would have thought this would end badly.

Can't help but wonder if the explosion in zebra mussel population could be a factor? The news this summerwasthat there were enough ZM in Mille Lacs to filter the entire water body every single day, stripping the lake of the nutrients for fish. If the DNR doesn't know what this means, perhaps it's time to get help from experts outside MN who DO know. Maybe it's time for Dayton to clean house at the DNR and put someone in charge who knows something about AIS and fish habitat!

I'm sure several "sportsmans organizations" will have no problem blaming this on wolves. Thank you Politicians running the DNR.

sjfellegyOct. 22, 12 1:26 PM

Maybe it's time Mark Dayton, as you refer to, stand up to his campaign promise and work to end the netting--as he promied on video in August 2010! Where are the politicians on this mess? How about standing up on behalf of a million plus MN. sport fishermen?

OMG! The horror! Steve still stirring the pot, trying to get his way. He's right and everyone else is wrong. He judges everyone by his standards - a folk hero! Ha!

Let the lake bottom out and have the tribe manage the lake. If you fish or hunt, you should avoid going to any of the tribal run casino's until a there is a complete end to walleye netting. We have seen this before on Red Lake. We do not need the government involved. Hit the problem in their wallets.
