The Gophers need to start preparing for the future, and getting Philip Nelson onto the field this year is a necessary step.

It is the right call - Brewseter should have done the same with Gray, but Brewster wasted Gray by not giving him the QB experience.

This is questionable at best. Does this mean he won't play against North Carolina?

If gray starts next week it was the biggest boneheaded move from the gophers since at least last week.

Another blunder by Kill. After losing to Iowa and Northwestern, the lesson SHOULD have been "we still suck, our coaching is suspect, and are players are slower and weaker than the competition". Playing four games against patsies should have fooled no one. now Nelson, if in fact he is the answer, was wasted in a season that is already lost. Kill has to have known his team is horrible. He backed out of games 2 and 3 years from now because he thought they would still be horrible then. Kill will not be here after next season, and if Kaler and Teague aren't careful neither will they. How do you justify what Kill did with 800 grand? Maybe a miracle will occur somehow, but as of today there is NO improvement on the field of this team.

Another terrible Kill decision. After the first two conference games against real opponents it was already obvious that this team wouldn't win another game. Now one whole year of elligibility is gone for absolutely no reason. tThose are not great Iowa, Noryhwerstern, or especially Wisconsin teams that ill lost to.

If we think we'll be better next year---and there's no reason to think we won't be as we'll return most of our two deep players---then there's a big difference between having a QB who has six Big Ten games under his belt and one who's starting his first. I saw a QB who is quicker than Gray and a fairly decent passer (if he had any receivers who could get open). Not an awesome first game, but showed promise. In five years, Nelson could have been a fifth year senior starting QB...or have suffered a career ending injury...or have been beaten out by another younger QB. He can help us now, and in particular next season.

The right decision to play the only talented QB on the roster. Only regret is he didn't remove the redshirt sooner. Nelson will have 1/2 the season to mature & if for some reason he doesn't work out (which is unlikely) they'll have time to find another option.

Mr Scoggins: I respectfully disagree. Nelson should have either started all year or waited until next year. Coach Kill needs to keep quiet, every time he opens his mouth he loses more fan support.

"fdrebin: Kill will not be here after next season, and if Kaler and Teague aren't careful neither will they." ---- Perhaps no longer a part of the sports program but they will likely get some do-nothing six-figure-salary jobs created for them like what was done for Maturi. How much did that 'we need it to be competitive' stadium cost again?
