"starts to thaw"?? The tribe has done a whole lot for Scott county for years. The constantly donate money to local police and fire depts., their own fire dept. supports surrounding communities, they have a mobile clinic that offers free vacinations and screenings, they have faithfully paid their land taxes (even on their land in trust) for years. They have always been very generous to surrounding communities and the state.

Too funny. When I saw the headline, my first thought was cash. Sure enough, the next line, in the sub-headline said it all: financial offerings.

My hope is that with each generation the anger and hatred from both sides eases. I have lived and worked in Scott Co since 1984 and witnessed great strides. Yes the tribe has millions now. But over time they are moving back towards their heritage and becoming good neighbors and citizens. I turn, we need to celebrate this and not focus on their wealth, but instead, welcome them in kind.

What a joke - they pay nothing in taxes, and throw 150K at Scott County to shut them up. They would have paid 15 times this in taxes per year. Wake up - they are just buying Scott county and its officials off for pennies on the dollar. They are smart - the people of this state are stupid.

To the cynics here, if you were aware of what indignities the tribe suffered through in the past and could then say you would be different somehow...you would be lying. And so what if they contribute money? Seems to be all the current crop of us white folks seem to understand. Maybe if they had been wealthy in the 1800's... tsindelir1, perhaps you would like your tax dollars going to support them?

We're not going to move forward at all unless people have all the pieces and quit going back 150 years. Their community has just as many radicals and misfits as any other. It's the 15% that are trying to save the rest.
