Bill Musgrave: 'We're not proud' of red zone plan

Asked why Percy Harvin was on the field for only four of the nine first-quarter red-zone snaps in Sunday's 38-26 loss at Washington, the offensive coordinator was honest.

"No," he said. "That was just the way the personnel groups went. That was part of our plan, which we're not proud of." Ha ha ha!! Neither are we, Bill!

If that was his plan, he needs to be replaced right now.

The Vikings run the "turtle offense," which is go in their shell and not come up with imaginative plays while in the red zone. Have Adrian Peterson "run up the middle," or a sweep around either end. Gee, I bet teh defense isn't ready for that! Also, when you get a lead, do the same conservative-type play calling.

"We're not proud of this plan". Well who the haaaall thought it up? I figured the O.C. had something to do with it, but that's just a guess.................

Its too bad Blair Walsh recovered so quickly because may be then they would have been forced to get touchdowns in the Red Zone instaed of field goals!

Can anyone get the NFL teams to quit claiming that 'so and so came down with food poisoning', when 99% of the time it was actually 'so an so coming down with a hangover.'?

Failure to adjust the plan when it's not a good one (if even for a play or two). I remember when Walsh and the 49ers would script the first 15 plays of a game, and stick to it... but if say the third play called for a go route deep through, but it turned out the play is going to be run from the opponent's 10 yard line, I bet it makes sense to ADJUST THE PLAN ON THE FLY!

It does not help that Ponder is inaccurate beyond 5 yds. We have not one but TWO TE's that are 6'6" Forget trying to run it in. They are just going to key on AP & Percy anyway. Run a TE crossing pattern. If Ponder can't hit either of them then he should not be playing the game.

At least the guy is honest but that doesn't make me feel any better about his ability as an OC. It's just like Childress all over again when he would almost ALWAYS without fail take Peterson off the field on 3rd down. Earth to Musgrave: You must try to keep your most talented and threatening players on the field as much as possible but most importantly on 3rd downs and when in the red zone. Any "plan" that doesn't do that is a "FAIL".

We've just been jinxed.....Wasn't it three years ago we we're playing the Cardinals and half their OL was out...and the headlines said something like it should be a sack fest for Vikings. Results we got beat bad.....
