Nice article. If they get goaltending this the the strongest Gopher squad I've seen since.....1979? Or perhaps 2002-03. Keep Skating hard and bury your chances. Ski-U-Mah.

Coach Don, #600 is just a few hours away, Congrats to you. I also think it is fitting that MG will be on the bench with you tonight to achieve that. The karma was definetly missing in his absence. Congrats again and best wishes on many more. **proud Gopher puck fan since 1965**

He's no Herb Brooks, and inheriting Jordan Leopold, John Pohl, and Jeff Taffe sure didn't hurt back on '01.

The road goes on for maybe two more years after he signed his 3 year extension in Oct, 2011. And the party never ends! Congratulations to Don on his successful career even though he's criticized by some alumni for not being a goph! After last year's rebound and with the high expectations of this year, no doubt the W's beyond #600 over the life of his contract will seal his fate as one of the best goph coaches ever!

From what I've heard the players aren't always the Don's biggest fans. But, if he wins, who cares. Gotta give him credit, he's the first guy since Herbie to win it all, and he did it twice. I think the three years Guentzel was away from the program illustrated how invaluable he is. Obviously, he should be next in line to be the head coach whenever Lucia leaves. Looking forward to this season. They looked awesome last weekend. No Wild this year so I'm all about the Gophers(and College Hockey in general).

"The Don" deserves to be revered as much as Herb Brooks in Gopher Hockey lore as far as I'm concerned. Herbie may be immortal for what he accomplished with the '80 US squad however, "The Don" is on the verge of a 3rd title (matching Herbie) and may pick up a few more before he decides to hang it up. We can only hope that Mike Guentzel will stick around long enough to take over the reigns when "The Don" is ready to step down. "The Don" and Mike Geuntzel will coach the Gopher Hockey program to the top of the mountain in terms of national championship titles by the time their reigns will be over (look out Michigan).

Great Article on Don but it misses the two years that he was a assistant Coach in Alaska Anch. He would have been a great head Coach there as he was at CC and Minnesota. He is one of many, many mistakes that have led to where the program now sits as a National Embarrasment to the state of Alaska. He absolutely paid the price to where he is and earned it along the way. Don is a great guy along with being a great Coach who his ex players will never forget
