$800,000 to buy out of football game, but can't figure out a solution for a valuable program. Must be a shortage of problem solvers at the U!

What a sad commentary on my school. What happened to creative thinking at the U? An Accredidation organizations says you "May" lose it's backing because the "U" has horses they don't own or care for. Was there any attempt at negotioation (how about a "lease" arrangement), or was this seen as a bother and a way to dump helping those most in need.

Sorry but not sure I see that it belonged there. There are lots of good charitable causes and nonprofits but it doesn't mean they belong at a university.

Reminds me of Alexander Solzhinitzen's book, For The Good of The Cause. It's the story of a group of kids wanting a youth center in their community. After they are told one is not needed, they go ahead and raise the money and build it anyway. Just as it is about to open, the local Soviet takes it over to use for government offices. The kids are expected to understand that it was For the Good of the Cause.

I'm in agreement with highiq. It does not sound like this is a program that belongs at the U. A private stable in the burbs might gladly take this on.

I volunteered with this group some time ago. All I know is, it's amazing what this therapy does for people with palsy and other muscular diseases. They come in twisted and bent over and after a year of riding, they're sitting on the horse with a straight back. If I was a millionaire, I'd buy them all the stables they want.

Lose the endorsement of the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care? Oh, the horror!! Tell these beaurocrats to get off their rear and adapt their policies. Otherwise, get other agencies to boycott these losers.

It is difficult to ask the U to conduct itself more like a business, yet decry it for making those tough "business" decisions that would be common-sense for any private organization looking at the best way to use its limited resources. The program sounds wonderful, but that doesn't mean that the U of M is the right place to be supporting it.
