Isn't getting multiple bids just basic common sense? Of course they could still end up just giving it to Ryan after the bid process. I would wager that Ryan made some sizable donations to campaign funds recently? Bidding on these types of projects is still iffy at best. When you get a bid on building a home for instance, you get three builders to look at your plans, and they bid it out from the plans. You never tell them what you have to spend. Who ever bids on this already knows St. Paul has a $25 million grant and the city is planning on spending an additional $29 million...do you think any bids are going to come in under $54 million?

I'm glad that St. Paul is asking for bids now. It's the right thing to do. Maybe 'the U' will now re-consider chickening out of the Carolina games and saving us $800,000. That would also be the right thing to do.

In other words "We were breaking the law and we knew it, we were just trying to see how much we could get away with in order to make sure our buddies got a taste from the magic money tree. We are not sorry and we will try it again in the future so long as no one is watching. Ethics are for ethical people you know, not us. Oh and p.s. vote DFL!"

Good but too bad we had to force them to do it.

Even if the city's decision was LEGAL, it was WRONG. Unfair, uneconomical, and probably corrupt. Don't forget that both parties contributed to this abuse of your tax dollars. Coleman should be ashamed of even considering awarding a contract in this manner. Hmmmm...I wonder what sort of political contributions Ryan Companies have made?

This is really the best way to spend $54 mil?

"Transparency in government always has been and will remain a top priority of mine" - If there were any truth to that it would have been put out for bid to begin with!

Anti-Catholic bias at it's finest. I suppose you all want some Colorado company building the Saint's ballpark? Let's face it, as soon as some people found out it was Ryan and not a company with a name like Kraus-Anderson, Mortenson, or Adolfson and Peterson they went nuts.
