Ruesse is always negative, but this time he's got it right. This was the one very good thing that Brewster did do. I do not see how Kill's philosophy of playing non-competitive games will lead to a competitive team. In addition, North Carolia is only a middling BCS team.

I did a check on the national sports sites and you would not believe the large ridicule the U is now under, especially coach Kill. He had just gained support at the coat tails of his latest seizure and this erased that. The U and its (lack of) leadership is being viewed as cowards and lacking in what it takes to make a winner. This is fast becoming one of the biggest black eyes (self inflicted) in the history of this university - a public relations embarrassment.

The 800k should come out of Kill's salary. I am quickly losing respect and patience with this guy.

Patrick, let's talk about why, why, why it's so hard for the Gophers to land any top tier talent for this program. I never hear a 4 or 5 star kid say they want to play here. Why, why, why??? I don't care who they play, just play some games and sign some decent kids.

let the coach build a foundation for gods sake. granted, UNC isn't a game i'd cancel, but back in the late 60s and early 70's minnesota played a perennial top 5 team in nebraska, and they ALWAYS got slaughtered. he has the right to avoid games like that for awhile.

If Kill thought recruiting was hard before, wait until he has to sit with a kid and his parents and explain this nightmare. I believe the football program has been officially "Killed".

Just never thought I'd see the day where we would be afraid to play UNC...IN FOOTBALL! And they wonder why the Stadium is empty? Who wants to spend $20+ to go to an 11am game to watch us play New Hampshire, or Maine, or Providence or...And now you want to schedule these in back to back to back to back weeks?

I have tossed this around with a few for a couple years now. Here's the proposition: the beat player on the Minnesota Gophers in 2008 and 2009 was Eric Decker. Without his midseason ankle injuries in those years, Brewster is not fired. As we all know, Decker, who is rapidly approaching All-Pro status in the NFL, was hobbled in 2008 Game 8 against Northwestern when his tip/drop during a game-winning drive against the Wildcats turned into a game-winning Pick 6 for Northwestern. Decker tried to play the next week against Michigan, but went to the locker room for the 2nd half, not to play again in 2008. 7-1 start ends 7-6. In 2009, the Gopher start out 4-3 and Decker, who was hobbled for the two previous games check outs after the 1st quarter against Ohio State. 4-2 start ends 6-7. Decker's career ended in Columbus, officially, although, it was over a couple of weeks earlier because of his ankle injury. If Decker does not injure his ankle in 2008, and again in 2009, Tim Brewster is still the head coach of the Golden Gophers. I know it is a stretch, but when you are a program as close to the edge as the Gophers have been, the loss of your only playmaker (Decker) during midseason, in both 2008 and 2009, can and will change history.
